Iran has provided Baghdad with guidance on Iraqi government formation, signaling its strong support for political stability. Additionally, Iranian Ambassador Mohammad Kazem Al-e Sadegh delivered a written message from Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to caretaker Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein. The message outlined Iran’s perspectives on recent developments in Iraq and regional security trends. Furthermore, it emphasized the importance of stability and political consensus.

The briefing also highlighted Iran’s position on key international issues. Moreover, officials stressed that Iran prioritizes a smooth Iraqi government formation. Analysts note that Iran’s engagement reflects its strategic interests in Iraq and the broader Middle East. This briefing comes after Iraq’s parliament elected Speaker Haibet Al-Halbousi and two deputies. Consequently, their election clears the way for the next constitutional step: selecting a president. Fuad Hussein, the current caretaker foreign minister, is a presidential candidate nominated by the Kurdistan Democratic Party.

Under Iraq’s constitution, the president then assigns a nominee from the largest parliamentary bloc to form a government. Currently, the Shiite Coordination Framework holds that position. Cabinet formation relies on political consensus among ethnic and sectarian groups. Therefore, analysts note this process can take months due to Iraq’s complex political landscape.

Experts emphasize that Iraqi government formation is crucial for domestic stability and regional cooperation. In addition, Iran’s involvement reflects its interest in ensuring the new government aligns with regional security priorities. At the same time, Baghdad’s ability to form a government efficiently can affect investor confidence and economic recovery efforts.

Officials highlight that coordination with neighboring countries, including Iran, is critical for political and security stability. The next steps include the presidential election and appointing a prime minister to form a cabinet. Meanwhile, observers expect negotiations among parliamentary blocs to secure agreement on the government platform.

Finally, Iran’s active engagement underscores the strategic importance of Iraqi government formation. However, analysts warn delays or disputes could affect governance and Iraq’s role in regional diplomacy. Consequently, Baghdad continues efforts to manage political challenges while prioritizing public stability and institutional continuity.
