Iranian and Turkish Education Officials Seek Deeper Scientific Cooperation at Istanbul Summit

Iranian Minister of Science Hossein Simaei-Sarraf and Turkish Minister Yusuf Tekin met recently to expand regional academic partnerships. The two leaders convened in Istanbul to enhance scientific, research, and educational cooperation between their respective nations. This high-level meeting occurred on the sidelines of the prestigious Seventh Turkey Educational Technologies Summit. Consequently, both administrations pledged to initiate joint research projects and accelerate bilateral student exchange initiatives. The diplomatic encounter underscores a growing regional commitment to integrate modern technological advancements into higher education.

During the discussions, Minister Tekin strongly condemned recent external military actions targeting academic infrastructure inside Iran. The Turkish education minister expressed deep solidarity while critiquing the western manipulation of international human rights. Meanwhile, Simaei-Sarraf noted that illegal foreign assaults had severely impacted numerous schools and university campuses. He prioritized protecting the collective scientific community from escalating geopolitical conflicts across the regional landscape. Therefore, both representatives urged Islamic nations to produce more comprehensive scientific literature regarding legal justice.

In addition to bilateral talks, Simaei-Sarraf engaged with the Economic Cooperation Organization Institute to discuss technology. Institute President Mehmet Akif Kirecci expressed readiness to develop collaborative artificial intelligence training courses with Iran. The two sides agreed to support technological initiatives by utilizing evolving smart tools in classrooms. Furthermore, the Iranian minister reviewed a proposal from Pakistan to establish a joint scientific working group. These consecutive diplomatic meetings highlight Iran’s active efforts to expand its academic diplomacy across Eurasia.

While addressing the international summit, Simaei-Sarraf highlighted the extensive domestic research capacities of the Islamic Republic. Remarkably, the country holds first place in cognitive sciences among Islamic nations despite facing severe sanctions. Iran also ranks ninth globally in advanced materials and maintains a massive higher education system. The current network supports over three million active students and seventy thousand dedicated faculty members. Moving forward, the ministry aims to establish strict regulations ensuring algorithmic transparency and responsible data governance.
