Memorial ceremonies for Ayatollah Khamenei were held in the capital to honor the late leader. During the service, the new Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei, expressed his gratitude to the public for their support and solidarity. Hojjatoleslam Seyyed Mostafa Khamenei delivered the official message on behalf of the new leader to thousands of mourners gathered on Tuesday.

Large crowds from Iran and neighboring Iraq assembled at Tehran’s Mosalla Mosque to pay their respects. During his address, the eldest son of the late leader extended his condolences to the global Islamic community. He emphasized that enduring the loss requires patience, unity, and a continued commitment to the nation’s long-term goals.

He also stated that patience and resilience would strengthen the country’s resolve in confronting external challenges. Another memorial ceremony attracted senior government officials, foreign diplomats, and religious figures. President Masoud Pezeshkian was among those who attended to pay his respects.

The late leader’s four surviving sons participated in the ceremonies alongside senior military commanders and government officials. The gathering took place five days after the burial at the holy shrine in Mashhad. Earlier, millions of mourners participated in funeral processions held in Tehran, Qom, Mashhad, and several cities in Iraq.

According to official accounts, a joint military strike killed the veteran leader on February 28 at his central office. The attack also reportedly killed four members of his family and several senior military commanders. The incident heightened regional tensions and prompted retaliatory military actions across the Middle East.

Ayatollah Khamenei assumed the position of Supreme Leader in June 1989 following the death of his predecessor. The memorial ceremonies highlighted the government’s efforts to project political continuity and institutional stability during the leadership transition. International observers continue to monitor developments closely for their potential impact on regional diplomacy.

Regional analysts expect Iran to continue strengthening its defense capabilities while reinforcing border security. They also note that the large public turnout reflects the continued influence of religious leadership within the country despite ongoing economic challenges and international sanctions.

Energy analysts continue to monitor the potential impact of regional tensions on global markets, particularly around key shipping routes. Meanwhile, neighboring countries have urged restraint to prevent further escalation. Government officials are also expected to announce additional domestic policies aimed at supporting economic stability in the coming weeks.
