Iran’s foreign minister held separate talks with his Omani and Saudi counterparts on Monday to discuss regional developments and maritime security. The discussions reflected continued diplomatic efforts to ease tensions and strengthen cooperation across the Gulf.
Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi spoke with Omani Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan. During the calls, the ministers stressed the importance of stronger regional cooperation. They also supported continued diplomatic coordination to promote long-term stability.
The talks focused on security in the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian officials said recent instability followed what they described as American military actions against Iran. They argued that regional dialogue remains the best way to reduce tensions and avoid further escalation.
Iran also referred to the Pakistan-brokered Memorandum of Understanding signed on June 17. According to Iranian authorities, the United States attempted unauthorized naval maneuvers in the strategic waterway. They said the Iranian Navy intercepted the vessels to uphold the agreement and maintain maritime security.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei confirmed that Iranian and Omani deputy foreign ministers held several meetings in Tehran on Friday and Saturday. The discussions centered on shipping safety and navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
Baghaei said the negotiations produced positive progress. However, officials decided not to change the current transit arrangements. Commercial shipping therefore continues under existing procedures while diplomatic contacts remain active.
Araghchi said instability in the Strait of Hormuz resulted from what Iran considers violations of commitments under the June memorandum. He also said those actions disrupted Iran’s responsibilities under Clause 5 of the agreement.
Araghchi reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to protecting its sovereignty and territorial integrity. He also called on governments to defend the principles of the United Nations Charter and reject the use of force in international relations.
The Strait of Hormuz carries about one-fifth of the world’s oil trade. Therefore, its security remains vital for global energy markets. Regional diplomats are expected to continue consultations as they seek greater stability through dialogue.
