Iran’s Khatam-al-Anbiya Central Headquarters directly refuted claims by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding naval control. Official spokesperson Ebrahim Zolfaghari firmly described Washington’s assertions as complete fabrications and unsubstantiated claims. Consequently, the military command reaffirmed Tehran’s sovereignty over the strategic maritime chokepoint.

Iranian military officials emphasized that international maritime traffic remains under strict domestic surveillance. Zolfaghari specifically noted that commercial vessels and oil tankers cannot navigate safely without explicit approval. Furthermore, newly appointed Basij commander Hossein Taeb reiterated that the waterway operates entirely under Iranian control.

The American administration claimed complete dominance over the narrow channel during a Wednesday address. President Trump described military operations as a steel wall restricting Iranian maritime movement in the region. Additionally, Washington maintained that the passage constitutes an international waterway subject to global navigation rights.

Regional tensions are escalating as Iranian authorities announce plans to levy tolls on passing vessels. Tehran insists that foreign ships must coordinate transit details directly with national maritime security agencies. Therefore, the conflicting claims raise immediate concerns about stability across global energy supply chains and shipping routes.

The narrow passage connects Middle Eastern oil producers directly with major global consumer markets. Approximately 20 percent of global petroleum traffic passes through this highly sensitive waterway. Hence, military posturing by either nation could directly affect global crude prices and international shipping insurance rates.

Looking ahead, defense analysts anticipate increased naval deployments and heightened monitoring across regional maritime corridors. Meanwhile, international commercial fleets are operating with increased caution as diplomatic efforts seek to de-escalate tensions. Ultimately, ongoing friction around this critical maritime artery threatens broader economic stability and regional security.
