Iran has finalized its national delegation for the upcoming 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. Consequently, sports fans across Asia are preparing for one of the continent’s biggest competitions.

The national sports committee has assembled a delegation of 522 members, including 312 qualified athletes. Furthermore, the extensive lineup combines experienced international champions with promising young competitors.

Sports officials emphasized a quality-based selection process focused primarily on athletes with strong medal potential. However, administrators expanded the delegation after securing 26 additional athlete quotas during the preliminary planning stages.

Traditional strength sports will form the foundation of Iran’s overall medal strategy at the continental competition. Therefore, national coaches expect strong performances in wrestling, taekwondo, weightlifting, and shooting.

Fourteen shooters will represent Iran, making the discipline one of the country’s key medal opportunities. Meanwhile, the weightlifting team includes established international competitors Mostafa Javadi, Ali Aalipour, and Ali Davoudi.

Nine Iranian paddlers will compete in canoeing events as they seek to end a 16-year gold medal drought. In athletics, officials have established an ambitious target of winning 10 podium finishes.

In team sports, Iran’s national volleyball team enters the tournament as one of the leading contenders. Conversely, the under-23 football team faces difficult group opponents, including China, North Korea, and the United Arab Emirates.

The 20th Asian Games will take place from September 19 to October 4 across the Aichi-Nagoya region. Consequently, Iranian athletes will face strong competition from leading sporting nations throughout the continent.

Iran’s delegation combines established champions, experienced competitors, and younger athletes seeking international recognition. Moreover, officials expect the country’s strongest sports to provide the largest share of medals.

Moving forward, coaches will focus on final preparations, technical development, and maintaining athletes’ competitive readiness. Ultimately, Iran hopes its carefully selected delegation can deliver strong results across multiple disciplines.
