Asghar Farhadi’s latest international cinematic feature, Parallel Tales, will screen at the Adapa Art Center in Tehran.Following the presentation, film critics Mehrzad Danesh and Omid Soleymani will lead an in-depth review session. This cultural event introduces domestic Iranian audiences to the director’s newest French-language drama and narrative approach. Consequently, local moviegoers will analyze how the acclaimed auteur explores themes of human perception.
The international drama made its world premiere in competition at the 79th Cannes Film Festival. Attendees at the prestigious festival presentation delivered an enthusiastic seven-minute standing ovation following the premiere.Furthermore, the movie features a notable European cast led by Isabelle Huppert and Catherine Deneuve. Prominent actors Vincent Cassel, Pierre Niney, and Adam Bessa also perform central roles.
Farhadi centers the narrative on a reclusive writer living in Paris who obsessively monitors her neighbors. She invents imaginary stories about their lives, gradually blurring the boundary between fantasy and reality. However, the story changes direction when a young homeless man enters her apartment for domestic work. His arrival creates unexpected consequences that push her fictional writings directly into real-life events.
The artistic concept draws creative inspiration from an episode of Krzysztof Kieślowski’s television series Dekalog.Nevertheless, Farhadi develops the premise through his signature focus on moral choices and relationships. Parallel Tales marks his second French-language feature after his 2013 drama The Past. That previous production earned lead actress Bérénice Bejo the Best Actress award at Cannes.
The new film brings together production companies from France, Italy, and Belgium. Alexandre Mallet-Guy produced the project alongside Farhadi and David Levine. Additionally, the effort continues Farhadi’s long partnership with Memento Production across multiple releases. Principal photography took place on location in Paris during the autumn of 2025.
