Iran’s nuclear chief has sharply criticized the UN nuclear watchdog for remaining silent over military strikes on Iranian nuclear sites. Mohammad Eslami, head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, spoke to reporters after a cabinet session. He said the IAEA’s failure to respond to attacks damages its professional credibility and undermines global trust. Moreover, Eslami insisted that the IAEA must follow its legal mandate without political bias. “The IAEA silence unacceptable when peaceful nuclear facilities face military threats,” he added.
He explained that the attacks specifically targeted Iran’s civilian nuclear infrastructure and were carried out by the United States and Israel. However, he noted the agency did not issue any condemnation or official statement. Furthermore, Eslami rejected negative portrayals of Iran’s nuclear program. He emphasized that the country’s nuclear technology serves civilian and industrial purposes. Additionally, he highlighted that Iran exports nuclear-related products to about fifty countries, supporting international development and cooperation.
Meanwhile, he accused Iran’s rivals of spreading misleading narratives to isolate the country politically and technologically. He argued that these pressure campaigns aim to slow national scientific progress and weaken global cooperation. Eslami also criticized the United States’ moral authority on nuclear issues. He noted its past use of atomic weapons in conflict. Therefore, he argued that nuclear technology should serve humanity, not destruction.
In response to recent remarks by IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, Eslami urged the agency to use precise, legally grounded language. He added that official reports must remain neutral, factual, and unbiased. Reiterating his criticism, Eslami said ignoring attacks encourages future violations of international law. Consequently, he emphasized that professional conduct and accountability are essential for global nuclear security.
Moreover, Eslami stressed that Iran expects fair treatment under international frameworks. He called for consistent enforcement of nuclear rules and standards, warning that selective oversight undermines trust in global institutions. Finally, he concluded: “IAEA silence unacceptable,” underlining the urgent need for accountability and protection of nuclear facilities worldwide.
