Iran will soon join the BRICS New Development Bank to expand regional financial cooperation and trade links. Central Bank of Iran Governor Abdolnasser Hemmati announced the decision during the high-level international summit held in India today. Furthermore, Hemmati described the financial institution as the single most critical achievement of the multilateral organization so far. Consequently, this accession marks a pivotal milestone for Tehran as it actively seeks alternative global banking channels.

During the international conference, Hemmati commended India for its effective presidency and strong leadership of the economic alliance. In addition, the central bank governor highlighted emerging cooperation between Iran and India across multiple key sectors. Specifically, both nations have established productive bilateral initiatives within monetary policy, cross-border banking, and the digital economy. Therefore, these collaborative programs lay a solid foundation for broader commercial integration among major developing economies.

The economic summit provided an essential platform for top Iranian officials to meet directly with key global counterparts. Notably, Tehran maintains its largest monetary exchanges and highest international trade volumes with these specific member nations. Hemmati emphasized that member states should conduct bilateral trade transactions utilizing their respective local fiat currencies. Accordingly, Iran actively pursues flexible bilateral and trilateral monetary arrangements with several partner nations across the economic block.

Financial analysts expect that joining the multilateral institution will enhance liquidity access and infrastructure investment for Tehran. Moreover, utilizing local currencies during cross-border settlement reduces vulnerability to external economic pressures and dollar reliance. Moving forward, financial representatives from member states plan to formalize technical mechanisms for integrated payment systems. As a result, international observers expect expedited progress toward comprehensive financial integration among member countries in coming months.
