President Masoud Pezeshkian criticized the United Nations, claiming a UN response failure worsened the recent conflict with Israel. He warned that hostilities could have triggered a broader, uncontrollable war in the region. The president emphasized the urgent need for international organizations to act responsibly toward aggressive actions.

Pezeshkian condemned the UN Security Council and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for failing to adopt a more decisive approach. He argued that appeasing Israel over repeated human rights violations must end immediately. “The policy of appeasement with the Zionist regime is no longer acceptable,” he said in a televised statement.

The conflict escalated after Israel conducted multiple airstrikes targeting Iranian nuclear and military facilities, resulting in casualties among commanders and scientists. A ceasefire, brokered by the United States, has temporarily halted hostilities. Nevertheless, Iranian officials remain critical of international oversight and intervention.

During the 12-day conflict, Iran requested three emergency UN Security Council sessions. These meetings aimed to address Israeli attacks, regional instability, and American strikes on nuclear sites. Despite these sessions, Iran’s leaders assert that the UN failed to act decisively, highlighting the perception of a UN response failure.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned that the region risks falling into a cycle of retaliation. He called for diplomatic engagement and full access for nuclear inspectors. Meanwhile, the IAEA reported losing track of 400 kilograms of enriched uranium during the conflict. IAEA Director-General Rafael Grossi cautioned that attacks on nuclear facilities could produce serious radioactive consequences.

Following the ceasefire, Iran’s parliament approved legislation to suspend cooperation with the IAEA. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi explained that Iran might halt collaboration until the safety of nuclear activities is guaranteed. He also accused the IAEA of enabling Israel and US actions and failing to condemn violations of nuclear safeguards.

The recent developments have strained US-Iran relations, disrupting ongoing nuclear negotiations. While discussions had been planned to continue, Iranian officials have signaled skepticism about the talks’ future. Pezeshkian and other leaders insist that international accountability is essential to prevent renewed escalation.

Analysts note that Iran’s criticism could influence future diplomatic engagement and reshape regional security dynamics. Observers expect the UN to face increased scrutiny over its role in conflicts involving nuclear oversight and international law.
