He stressed that the rail connectivity project represents a crucial step in deepening bilateral cooperation. President Pezeshkian highlighted that completing this railway network would enhance trade, economic, and cultural relations.

He explained that accelerating implementation of the project by Iraq would not only strengthen ties between the two nations but also improve connections with other regional countries. Moreover, Pezeshkian pointed out that expanding these ties could promote cooperation in security, scientific, and cultural fields.

The president underscored the value of regular diplomatic exchanges and official visits. Such interactions, he said, increase mutual understanding and help create a shared perspective on bilateral and regional issues. Additionally, he stressed that unity among Islamic nations remains essential. He argued that cohesion could prevent plots by external actors targeting the region.

Pezeshkian described the rail connectivity initiative as one of the most important collaborative efforts between Iran and Iraq. He added that linking the railway network and creating joint free trade zones would boost regional security and encourage economic growth. From a broader perspective, he reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to considering all Iraqis and the Kurdistan Region as brothers. He emphasized that strength lies in fostering unity and avoiding divisions instigated by adversaries.

Iraq’s National Security Advisor Qasim al-Araji welcomed the meeting and underlined that Iran’s and Iraq’s security are inseparable. He confirmed Iraq’s commitment to their security treaty and stated that the countries’ borders must remain among the safest in the region. Al-Araji also called the rail connectivity plan strategic, noting that it promotes economic and political convergence. He assured full Iraqi government support for the project and highlighted a historic opportunity for wider regional cooperation.

Rebar Ahmed Khalid Barzani, Kurdistan Region’s Minister of Interior, expressed gratitude for the meeting and praised the positive political and public impact of President Pezeshkian’s visit. He reaffirmed the region’s dedication to Iran’s stability and security and emphasized strict adherence to the bilateral security agreement.
