Iran has warned of regional consequences in response to potential threats against the country. Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, emphasized that any aggression targeting Iran would not remain confined within its borders. The effects, he said, would spill over to neighboring countries, highlighting the importance of stability in the region. Over the past week, Iran’s diplomatic team engaged actively with international partners. The president held high-level meetings, while Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi conducted phone talks with regional counterparts. These efforts aim to protect national interests and maintain peace across the region.
Baghaei strongly condemned recent Israeli attacks in Gaza and Lebanon. One of the deadliest assaults since the ceasefire killed at least 30 Palestinians, he noted. He added that continued strikes on residential areas and civilian infrastructure in Lebanon obstruct reconstruction efforts and place more responsibility on ceasefire guarantors. The European Union’s decision to label Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist organization drew sharp criticism. Baghaei called it a “strategic mistake” and said European ambassadors in Tehran were summoned to review the issue. He described the move as an insult to the Iranian people and claimed Europe ignored the IRGC’s role in combating terrorism.
Questions about possible negotiations with the United States also arose. Baghaei stressed that Iran would consider past experiences, including Washington’s repeated breaches and deceptive actions over the last decade, in any future decision-making. He highlighted Iran’s continued commitment to diplomacy and peaceful solutions for protecting national interests. Regional countries are actively working to prevent further escalation, he said. In contrast, he accused European states of contributing to rising tensions. Baghaei also noted that Iran maintains direct contact with Riyadh and evaluates positions based on dialogue, not media reports. Recent exchanges between the two foreign ministers reflect ongoing diplomatic discussions.
Lifting sanctions remains a top priority for Tehran, Baghaei added. The government expects removal of unjust sanctions in exchange for confidence-building regarding its nuclear program. He clarified that joint naval exercises with China and Russia follow a regular schedule and will continue as planned. Concerns from the International Atomic Energy Agency about Iran’s uranium stockpiles were addressed as well. Baghaei explained that gaps in information result from Israeli military attacks, emphasizing that inspectors have conducted routine visits according to established procedures. He concluded that Iran continues to act transparently while defending its security. Regional consequences, he said, remain a key concern for Tehran. The country will continue pursuing diplomacy to maintain peace and stability.
