Iran Russia ties continue to strengthen as both countries emphasize unwavering cooperation under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty. Moreover, Russian Ambassador Alexey Yurievich Dedov stated that this partnership will not yield to foreign pressure. Consequently, the Tehran-Moscow partnership now extends across energy, transport, defense, and infrastructure projects.
Dedov highlighted that bilateral relations cover multiple sectors beyond politics. For instance, key projects include the Rasht–Astara railway, the North–South international transport corridor, and energy initiatives. Furthermore, construction on the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant’s second and third units continues despite international sanctions. He emphasized that all military cooperation follows international law and does not target any third country.
The ambassador criticized Western attempts to reactivate UN sanctions through the snapback mechanism. He described these efforts as unacceptable and illegal. Therefore, Tehran and Moscow will not negotiate under external coercion. In addition, strategic cooperation between Iran and Russia remains steady, with long-term commitments guiding both nations’ policies.
Under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty, signed in January 2025, Iran and Russia aim to deepen collaboration in defense, finance, culture, science, and technology. Dedov explained that the treaty represents a new chapter in bilateral relations, signaling a significant step in mutual ties. Additionally, it opens opportunities for further economic and technological cooperation.
Cultural exchanges also strengthen Iran Russia ties. For example, Russia hosted the Russian Cultural Week in Iran, while Iranian Cultural Days are planned in Moscow next year. Moreover, high-level delegations recently participated in the United Cultures conference in St. Petersburg. In November, Moscow will host the first Eurasia Cinema Freedom Award, featuring Iranian films.
Ambassador Dedov further emphasized Iran’s growing international influence and Moscow’s support for Tehran’s membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, BRICS, and the Eurasian Economic Union. He called Iran a key foreign policy priority, highlighting its role in regional stability and promoting a multipolar world.
Looking ahead, Iran Russia ties are expected to expand across economic, cultural, and strategic sectors. Furthermore, both nations remain committed to implementing treaty obligations, fostering long-term cooperation, and developing joint projects. As a result, the partnership between Tehran and Moscow is likely to strengthen even further in the coming years.
