Iran’s parliament will soon review the Strait of Hormuz security bill, according to senior lawmaker Ebrahim Azizi. The proposal aims to strengthen security, support development, and improve coordination across Iran’s southern coastline. Moreover, officials believe the legislation will reinforce national preparedness during continuing regional tensions.
Azizi announced the plan while attending a meeting of the Hormozgan Provincial Security Council. He explained that members of the parliamentary National Security and Foreign Policy Commission had visited Hormozgan several times during the past year. Furthermore, those visits allowed lawmakers to evaluate security conditions and review ongoing regional developments.
He said the commission intends to place the Strait of Hormuz security bill on the parliamentary agenda within the coming days. Additionally, lawmakers plan to include recommendations presented by provincial security officials while finalizing the proposed legislation. Azizi described those recommendations as practical and valuable for future policymaking.
During the meeting, security officials reviewed current conditions across the strategically important southern province. They also discussed preparedness measures, regional coordination, and responses to evolving security challenges. According to Azizi, council members demonstrated strong unity and operational readiness throughout their discussions.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most important maritime routes for global energy supplies. Roughly one-fifth of global oil consumption passes through the narrow waterway each day. Consequently, governments and international energy markets closely monitor security developments affecting the passage.
Azizi also pledged continued parliamentary support for military and security forces stationed along Iran’s southern coast. He said lawmakers would back future legislation and budget allocations needed to strengthen operational capabilities. Therefore, additional financial resources could support infrastructure, logistics, and coastal security programs.
Political analysts believe the proposed legislation reflects Tehran’s broader effort to strengthen security while improving coordination among national institutions.
