Iran’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Gholamhossein Darzi, formally condemned a deadly American airstrike on a wedding ceremony in southern Iran. Consequently, the diplomat submitted an official protest letter to UN Secretary-General António Guterres and the leadership of the UN Security Council.

The diplomatic communication detailed an evening airstrike that struck a private residential home in Kuhestak, Hormozgan Province. Furthermore, Iranian officials reported four civilian deaths, including a four-year-old child, and more than 70 injuries.

Darzi described the residential strike as a clear war crime and a violation of the UN Charter. Therefore, the Iranian diplomatic mission urged international authorities to investigate reported damage to civilian infrastructure across the affected provinces.

The Iranian letter also highlighted what it described as a broader pattern of airstrikes against civilian infrastructure across the country. Specifically, the diplomat referenced an earlier February attack on a primary school in Minab, which Iranian officials said killed 168 students.

In response to continued foreign military operations, Iranian armed forces launched counterstrikes against American military installations in the region. Moreover, Iranian diplomatic officials argued that the country’s armed forces were exercising their right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter.

Iran called on the Security Council to demand an immediate halt to what it described as unilateral American military aggression against sovereign territories. Additionally, the diplomatic submission called for financial compensation for loss of life, injuries, and property damage.

Geopolitical analysts warn that continued military escalation between Washington and Tehran could further threaten security across the Middle East. Ultimately, Iranian representatives stressed the need for the international community to uphold humanitarian law and protect civilians.
