Iran Unity Challenge: Israel and US Push Separatist Agendas

Iran faces a renewed Iran unity challenge as external powers reportedly aim to destabilize the country. Moreover, Israel and the United States increasingly target Iranian cohesion. Analysts warn this effort threatens Iran’s political and social stability. Iran has long been a diverse nation, home to Persians, Azeris, Kurds, Balochis, Arabs, and Turkmens. Despite these differences, communities historically maintained shared cultural ties. For example, Persian serves as the unifying language, and DNA studies show strong genetic connections. Therefore, experts argue these factors reinforce Iran’s enduring identity.

Over centuries, Iranians resisted foreign invasions, including Alexander the Great, Arab caliphates, and Mongol armies. However, modern tactics exploit ethnic divisions within Iran. These efforts aim to weaken trust among communities. The concept of a “Greater Israel” reportedly drives much of this foreign interest. Zionist groups historically advocated expanding Israel beyond its borders. Consequently, analysts claim this vision could threaten neighboring countries, viewing Iran as a primary obstacle. In addition, external powers focus on Iran’s internal dynamics rather than direct confrontation alone.

Over the last four decades, Israel and the United States used multiple strategies. These include sanctions, military actions, and propaganda campaigns targeting ethnic separatists. Recently, coverage of the 12-day June conflict highlighted such strategies. For instance, Israeli media reportedly suggested partitioning or federalizing Iran, particularly focusing on Kurdish populations. Meanwhile, Kurdish communities remain fully integrated in Iranian society.

Scholars stress that Kurds are among the most authentically Iranian peoples. Professor Mahmoud Jafari Dehaghi explained Kurdish languages belong to the Iranian language family. In addition, historical records like the Shahnameh illustrate Kurdish participation in defending Iran against tyrants like Zahhak. Moreover, Kurdish populations lived under Iranian sovereignty until the 20th century, demonstrating a deep-rooted connection.

Some analysts view recent Israeli rhetoric as politically motivated. Ardeshir Pashang, a Kurdish affairs expert, criticized Israel’s gestures as inconsistent with historical evidence. For example, Mossad operations targeted Kurdish leaders, while Israel allied with anti-Kurdish actors. Therefore, these PR moves are unlikely to reflect genuine support.

Observers argue this Iran unity challenge reflects broader geopolitical strategies. By exploiting ethnic divisions, external powers aim to weaken Tehran’s influence. Meanwhile, experts warn Iran must continue promoting internal cohesion while countering foreign interference. In response, the government is reportedly strengthening cultural and educational programs to maintain unity.

Looking ahead, analysts suggest Iran may increase efforts to strengthen social integration and counter propaganda. Consequently, maintaining unity among diverse communities remains a critical national priority. With resilience and historical solidarity, Iran aims to withstand foreign attempts at division.
