Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) says its naval forces stopped three oil tankers after alleged navigation violations. The announcement comes amid heightened attention to maritime security across the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz.

According to an official military statement released on Wednesday, the IRGC Navy intercepted the three tankers after repeated warnings. Officials said the vessels continued sailing along what authorities described as an unsafe and unauthorized route. Consequently, naval units engaged the tankers before bringing them to a complete stop.

Military authorities stated that the tankers ignored repeated instructions from Iranian naval forces. They said the vessels continued their course despite several security warnings. Therefore, naval commanders decided to take direct operational action.

Officials did not disclose the ships’ names or their nationalities. They also withheld information about the cargo, destination, and ownership of each vessel. Furthermore, authorities did not specify the exact location of the operation.

Officials also declined to confirm whether security forces detained the crews after the interception. Likewise, they provided no information regarding possible damage or injuries resulting from the incident.

The development has increased regional attention on maritime security across critical international shipping routes. The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s busiest energy corridors. Every day, large volumes of crude oil and liquefied natural gas pass through the narrow waterway.

Iran has repeatedly stressed the importance of protecting regional waters through cooperation among neighboring countries. Officials continue supporting regional solutions instead of relying on outside military involvement. As a result, naval operations often receive both military and diplomatic attention.

Recent diplomatic discussions have also focused on regional maritime cooperation. Iranian officials acknowledged that Oman presented a proposal for a joint security mechanism. The proposal aims to improve navigation and coordination in the Strait of Hormuz.

Shipping analysts continue monitoring developments across the region. Any uncertainty can increase freight costs, insurance premiums, and shipping delays. Energy traders also watch military activity because supply concerns often influence global oil prices.

Iranian authorities may release additional information after completing their investigation. Regional governments and commercial shipping companies will also continue monitoring maritime developments closely.
