Iran has taken a major step in expanding renewable energy with the launch of four significant water and power projects. These renewable energy initiatives aim to improve energy efficiency, secure water resources, and strengthen service reliability across multiple regions.
President Masoud Pezeshkian led the inauguration via video conference and highlighted the government’s commitment to sustainable development. Officials emphasized that these projects will support long-term energy security and modernize public infrastructure.
The government launched the Sahand combined-cycle power plant in East Azarbaijan Province. It will generate a substantial amount of electricity, supporting both residential and industrial needs. The Robat Karim wastewater treatment facility in Tehran Province will enhance water quality and environmental sustainability in the region.
Another key initiative is the Taleqan water transfer system. It will deliver reliable drinking water to residents in Tehran and Alborz, addressing growing water demand. All projects together reach a combined capacity of 917 megawatts, with an investment of about $330 million.
Energy Ministry officials explained that the projects will optimize electricity distribution and reduce energy losses. They also noted that renewable energy projects align with Iran’s broader strategy to shift toward cleaner, sustainable power sources.
Experts praised the initiatives, saying that linking renewable energy with water management generates economic and environmental benefits. They added that improving service reliability can attract further investment and stimulate local economies.
