Iran could reach a quick agreement in nuclear talks if the discussions focus only on its promise not to develop nuclear weapons, a senior Iranian official said. Rear Admiral Ali Shamkhani, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, said negotiators can achieve an immediate deal if they center talks on Iran’s pledge to avoid nuclear arms. He added that this position follows Iran’s official doctrine and leadership guidance.
Shamkhani said confirming Iran’s intention not to build nuclear weapons aligns with the country’s religious and defense principles. Under these conditions, he said, a swift agreement is possible. He also noted that Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi has the authority and support to negotiate such a deal. Shamkhani said this shows Iran’s institutions are making diplomatic progress.
“The situation is clear: if the talks focus on Iran’s pledge not to develop nuclear weapons, the path to an agreement is open,” Shamkhani said. The remarks come as the world closely watches Iran’s nuclear program. Negotiators seek to ensure Iran’s activities remain peaceful while addressing global security concerns. Shamkhani’s comments suggest Tehran is ready to make fast progress if talks respect its policies.
He emphasized that discussions must align with Iran’s defense and religious framework. By highlighting that Iran’s nuclear doctrine already matches non-proliferation commitments, he showed Tehran sees a practical path to resolution without compromising principles. Shamkhani’s message comes amid ongoing efforts to resolve issues related to Iran’s nuclear program and sanctions relief. Officials say Iran will negotiate within the limits of its declared policies. He concluded that if both sides focus on Iran’s assurance not to pursue nuclear weapons, an agreement could come faster than expected.
