Completing the Shams Tabrizi mausoleum complex in Khoy promises to strengthen cultural tourism across West Azarbaijan province. Provincial leadership views the development as an essential strategic investment in cultural infrastructure and regional economic growth. During a recent coordination meeting, Governor-General Reza Rahmani outlined preparations for the opening while emphasizing the site’s importance. Consequently, state officials view the complex as a central symbol reflecting the province’s rich mystical heritage.

Beyond infrastructure, the newly developed complex features a specialized library alongside dedicated international exhibition halls. These integrated modern facilities will host academic conferences, literary gatherings, and international cultural exchanges celebrating Persian mysticism. Furthermore, hosting global researchers will introduce Iran’s rich intangible heritage to broader international audiences. Therefore, municipal planners are leveraging Khoy’s historical status as an ancient commercial crossroads to attract global visitors.

To maximize tourism potential, Governor-General Rahmani called for immediate upgrades to regional transport networks and airport infrastructure. Enhanced regional connectivity will enable smoother travel for international tourists visiting historic spiritual sites across northwestern Iran. Subsequently, increased tourist footfall could stimulate commercial growth for regional hotel operators, transport services, and local businesses. However, municipal authorities must balance commercial development with strict preservation standards to maintain the historic site’s integrity.

Shams Tabrizi, a prominent 13th-century mystic, served as the influential spiritual mentor of Jalal al-Din Rumi. Their profound relationship inspired Rumi to compose his celebrated poetic masterpiece, the Divan-e Shams-e Tabrizi. Consequently, Khoy remains an important destination for scholars and enthusiasts of classical Persian literature. Looking forward, authorities will prioritize infrastructure surrounding the mausoleum to support its long-term cultural legacy.
