Tehran airports extend operating hours to improve flight schedules across Iran. The Civil Aviation Organization spokesman Majid Akhavan announced this change on Tuesday. Specifically, both Mehrabad and Imam Khomeini airports will now operate longer each day. The new schedule runs from 4:30 in the morning until 9:30 at night. Consequently, Tehran airports extend operating hours to accommodate more domestic and international flights.

All flights can now use these two major hubs according to official notices. The organization has issued a new aeronautical information publication for airlines. Therefore, carriers can plan their arrivals and departures with greater flexibility. Akhavan explained that the extended schedule will significantly reduce flight delays. In fact, Tehran airports extend operating hours precisely to tackle this chronic problem. Passengers have long complained about waiting times and disrupted connections.

For context, international flights from Iran had stopped during recent regional hostilities. The war began on February 28 and caused a complete suspension of foreign routes. However, services resumed in late April after security conditions improved. The United States and Israel had targeted several Iranian airports and aircraft. Those airstrikes damaged infrastructure and forced temporary shutdowns at some locations. Nevertheless, Tehran airports extend operating hours now as a sign of recovery.

The decision also reflects growing confidence in air travel demand. Domestic tourism has rebounded strongly since the ceasefire took hold. Meanwhile, business travelers need reliable schedules for regional trade connections. Akhavan added that ground staff have received additional training for the longer shifts. Air traffic controllers will work in rotating teams to maintain safety standards. As a result, Tehran airports extend operating hours without compromising operational security.

Industry experts see this move as a positive step for Iranian aviation. The extended window allows more connections to Middle Eastern and Asian destinations. Furthermore, it reduces pressure on morning and evening peak periods significantly. Airlines can now space out their departures across a 17-hour day. This change also lowers congestion on runways and in passenger terminals. Looking ahead, authorities might consider 24-hour operations if demand keeps rising. For now, Tehran airports extend operating hours to serve travelers more efficiently.
