Pressure contradicts dialogue, according to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. He recently spoke with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. This phone call highlighted a major tension with Washington. Specifically, the United States claims it wants diplomacy. Yet it also maintains hostile measures against Iran. Therefore, President Pezeshkian sees a clear inconsistency. Consequently, this inconsistency raises Iranian mistrust among citizens and officials.

The situation follows recent events from April 7. On that day, U.S. President Donald Trump announced a two-week ceasefire. This move targeted Iran without any provocation. Talks then took place in Islamabad, Pakistan. Pakistan had acted as a mediator between both sides. However, those discussions did not yield any agreement. The United States made maximalist demands. Moreover, Washington insisted on unreasonable positions. Thus, the first round ended without progress.

Trump later extended the ceasefire unilaterally. But he also ordered a continued naval blockade. This blockade targets Iranian vessels and ports. Tehran views this as an illegal act. For instance, American media reported on possible second-round talks. Nevertheless, Iran firmly refused to rejoin. The Islamic Republic set a clear condition. Specifically, the blockade must lift first. Otherwise, no negotiations will occur at all.

In addition, Tehran closed the strategic Strait of Hormuz. Iran took this step as direct retaliation. The country has no reopening plans whatsoever. Hence, the blockade remains the main obstacle. President Pezeshkian explained his position further. He said hostile U.S. measures continue as well. The naval blockade is a prime example. Indeed, these actions do not match U.S. claims. Washington says it seeks a political resolution. Yet pressure contradicts dialogue in practice.

The president added a direct warning. Rebuilding trust will face serious difficulty. This difficulty will persist under hostile actions. Operational pressures must stop first. Only then can progress occur on diplomacy. Pezeshkian advised Washington very directly. To resolve standing issues, the U.S. must act. It must remove operational obstacles immediately. For this reason, the blockade is the most urgent one.

He made Iran’s final position unmistakably clear. The Islamic Republic will not enter imposed talks. Iran rejects negotiations under pressure or threats. Similarly, it also refuses negotiations under any blockade. This stance reflects a broader impasse today. Both sides remain very far apart. For example, the United States continues its naval pressure. Meanwhile, Iran keeps the Strait of Hormuz closed. As a result, trade and shipping face major disruption. Likewise, regional stability also continues to suffer.

Experts see few short-term solutions available. Confidence-building measures have collapsed completely. Without lifting the blockade, diplomacy cannot advance. Therefore, pressure contradicts dialogue as a real fact. Unless Washington changes its course, the standoff will continue. Pakistan may attempt further mediation efforts. But for now, Tehran shows no flexibility at all.
