Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Thursday that future Iran US talks depend on changes in Washington’s approach toward Tehran. He stressed that mutual respect remains the essential foundation for any meaningful diplomatic progress. Furthermore, he rejected suggestions that mediation currently represents the main obstacle between the two countries.

Araghchi made the remarks while speaking during Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Falih Kadhim al-Zaidi’s official visit to Tehran. The comments followed speculation that Iraq could facilitate renewed communication between Tehran and Washington after the Iraqi leader’s recent visit to the United States. However, Araghchi dismissed the idea that Iran requires another mediator.

According to the foreign minister, the primary challenge involves American policies rather than diplomatic communication channels. He argued that Washington must reconsider its approach before discussions can move forward. Therefore, he said meaningful dialogue will remain difficult until the United States respects Iran’s national interests.

Araghchi also stated that Tehran does not require additional messages or intermediaries to communicate its position. Instead, he said American policymakers should review their policies and adopt a more constructive framework. Consequently, he indicated that future diplomatic progress depends on decisions made in Washington.

Relations between Iran and the United States have remained tense following months of military confrontation and political disagreements. The two countries previously reached a Pakistan-brokered memorandum intended to end hostilities and create conditions for further negotiations. Nevertheless, both sides later accused each other of failing to uphold the understanding, increasing regional tensions.

Diplomatic relations remain closely linked to broader security developments across the Middle East. Continued uncertainty has affected regional stability, while governments closely monitor political and military developments. Energy markets and international investors also remain attentive because geopolitical risks can influence global trade and oil prices.

Political analysts believe renewed diplomacy will require confidence-building measures from both governments before formal negotiations become possible. Meanwhile, regional partners continue supporting diplomatic engagement to reduce tensions and encourage long-term stability. Future Iran US talks will likely depend on policy changes, sustained communication, and broader regional efforts to prevent further escalation.
