Iran is pushing to increase its renewable capacity to more than 5,200 megawatts by the end of the Iranian year. Authorities, including the Energy Ministry and the president, prioritize renewable capacity growth. They are speeding up permitting and improving financing to achieve the target. Deputy Energy Minister Mohsen Tarztalab said that new plants are installing faster than before, but administrative delays slow their full integration into the national grid. So far, Iran has installed about 3,700 megawatts of renewable capacity. The grid currently receives roughly 3,400 megawatts, while about 870 megawatts are not yet visible in official figures.

Officials have met with grid operators to improve coordination. They aim to close the gap between announced capacity and operational output. Tarztalab also explained that authorities, following ministerial and presidential directives, plan to raise renewable capacity even further by late February. They expect to add around 1,000 megawatts of clean power in February alone. Stronger cooperation among agencies is essential to meet this goal. Tarztalab, who leads the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Organization (SATBA), said adequate financing can accelerate project completion. He also highlighted that private developers struggle to secure foreign currency. Authorities need to provide more support for financing and procurement to reach renewable capacity targets.

The ministry is revoking permits for inactive projects and prioritizing active investors. Officials cancel licenses without progress for more than six months and reassign them. Across Iran, authorities have issued over 115,000 megawatts of permits, leaving few unused capacities in several provinces SATBA plans to introduce artificial intelligence in permitting, investor services, and project monitoring. Teams submitted 40 AI proposals recently and unveiled ten. Electronic government services now let investors complete procedures online.

Authorities plan to gradually implement full digitalization and AI integration. Tarztalab urged the Industry Ministry and the central bank to coordinate closely to accelerate order registration, equipment procurement, and financing. Iran expects renewable capacity to reach 11,000 megawatts by the end of summer, growing three to seven times compared with previous periods. With stronger support and coordination, Iran can achieve its ambitious renewable energy goals.
