Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian held a phone conversation with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to discuss unrest in Iran and broader regional developments. During the exchange, Pezeshkian addressed riots in several Iranian cities and linked them to what he described as hostile actions by the United States and Israel. According to Pezeshkian, the disturbances followed the 12-day conflict in June 2025 and reflected continued external pressure. He argued that foreign actors sought to exploit internal tensions after the conflict ended. At the same time, he emphasized that public unity across Iran remained strong despite these efforts.
The president said millions of Iranians participated in nationwide rallies to denounce what he called foreign-backed agitators. These demonstrations, he added, disrupted hostile plans and reaffirmed national resolve. He stressed that Iran continues its national path with determination and confidence. Turning to foreign policy, Pezeshkian noted that Iran seeks stronger relations with neighboring and Islamic countries. He described regional cooperation as a strategic priority for Tehran. In addition, he said diplomacy and engagement remain central to Iran’s overall approach.
The Iranian president also recalled developments preceding clashes on June 8 and 9. He referred to statements made by U.S. officials earlier in January and claimed those remarks encouraged disorder and emboldened radical actions. He cited messages that referenced intervention and intelligence involvement. As tensions escalated, Pezeshkian said initially peaceful gatherings turned into violent confrontations in some cities. He stated that inflammatory rhetoric contributed to instability in limited urban areas. External encouragement, rather than domestic grievances, was responsible for the escalation, he argued.
During the call, Pezeshkian highlighted government initiatives aimed at strengthening national unity in Iran. He referenced efforts to promote cohesion among ethnic and religious communities. He also mentioned outreach programs involving political groups across the country. Despite these initiatives, he said Iran continued to face foreign pressure. He accused Washington and Tel Aviv of intensifying hostility to undermine regional stability. Nevertheless, he reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to dialogue and cooperation.
Pezeshkian thanked Pakistan for its consistent diplomatic support and praised Islamabad’s stance on Iran’s regional positions. He also welcomed Pakistan’s efforts to reduce tensions and promote stability. In response, Prime Minister Sharif emphasized Iran’s importance to regional security. He said Tehran’s active engagement could counter destabilizing agendas. He also expressed confidence in Iran’s role as a stabilizing force. Both leaders concluded the call by underscoring cooperation as a shared objective. Peace, stability, and continued regional dialogue featured prominently in their remarks. The conversation ended with commitments to maintain close coordination.
