Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani officially welcomed a monumental diplomatic pact between Tehran and Washington on Monday morning. This historic development follows several months of intense regional conflict that originally commenced during late February. Barzani expressed immense hope that all involved parties will now work in good faith toward full implementation. Furthermore, he emphasized that this momentous breakthrough will ultimately strengthen long-term regional stability, security, and economic prosperity.

U.S. President Donald Trump announced early Monday that the comprehensive peace treaty has been finalized successfully. Trump confirmed that authorities will officially reopen the critical Strait of Hormuz immediately upon signing the deal. Meanwhile, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council confirmed that negotiators finalized the official memorandum of understanding on Sunday. Consequently, the council declared that all military operations across all fronts will end permanently tonight. Iranian officials also stated that the restrictive naval blockade against their nation will terminate completely.

United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres hailed these congratulatory remarks as a critical step forward. Conversely, certain political opponents expressed deep hesitation and described the diplomatic victory as highly premature. For instance, Israeli politician Yair Golan strongly criticized the deal for leaving essential nuclear infrastructure intact. The complex conflict originally began on February 28 following joint US-Israeli military strikes on Iran. Tehran responded swiftly by attacking specific regional assets and disrupting critical international shipping lanes.

The warring sides targeted over 17,000 sites before accepting a Pakistan-mediated ceasefire on April 8. However, reciprocal maritime restrictions in the strategic strait heavily reduced daily shipping traffic during the ceasefire. This severe disruption triggered immense global economic pressure, forcing nations to tap into vital strategic reserves. Concurrently, the Kurdistan Region endured more than 800 destructive drone attacks from Tehran-backed armed groups. This historic Iran-US peace agreement now establishes a hopeful future outlook for international commerce and safety.
