The Iranian Actors Guild has raised a serious artists privacy concern following the arrest of several well-known actors. The arrests took place during a private gathering, and media reports quickly spread details of the case.

The guild issued a statement expressing deep regret and concern about how the situation was handled. It said the timing of the arrests, just as the Fajr International Film Festival was returning after years of disruption, was especially regrettable. The guild believes the incident creates a negative image of Iranian artists at a sensitive cultural moment.

The statement argued that this case caused an inaccurate and damaging portrayal of the country’s artistic community. The guild emphasized that all citizens, including artists, deserve respect for their privacy. It pointed out that the arrests violated Article 22 of Iran’s Constitution, which protects dignity and privacy. The 2004 law on citizens’ rights also guarantees individuals protection from degrading treatment.

While the guild acknowledged that artists are not above the law, it criticized the reported entry into a private home without proper procedure. It also objected to the rapid public disclosure of names and alleged details before judicial review. The case reportedly involved alcoholic drinks, which are illegal in Iran. The guild said these actions conflict with the principle of confidentiality during preliminary investigations.

The actors guild asked senior judicial and oversight authorities to look into the arrests. It called for legal action against anyone who harmed the psychological security of the artistic community. The guild emphasized that artists privacy concern must be treated as a red line to maintain public trust.

The statement concluded that respecting privacy is essential for all citizens, and protecting it is critical for a fair and safe society. The Iranian judiciary has not yet responded to the guild’s statement.

This incident highlights the ongoing tension between legal enforcement and artists’ rights. The guild’s call underscores the importance of handling private matters carefully and respecting the privacy of public figures. Maintaining artists privacy concern is vital for cultural growth and public trust in Iran.
