The IRGC Navy keeps constant watch over the Strait of Hormuz using sea, air, and underwater systems. In addition, Alireza Tangsiri, commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps naval forces, confirmed that the waterway is under full 24-hour surveillance. He made the remarks during ongoing military drills focused on defense and rapid response in the Persian Gulf. These exercises aim to strengthen Iran’s maritime security and also demonstrate the navy’s readiness to respond to any threat.

Tangsiri said the drills are part of the IRGC Navy’s annual training program. They take place near Iranian islands in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, which he described as strong defensive positions. The IRGC Navy protects these islands and ensures the strategic passage remains secure. Moreover, the exercises help troops practice real-life scenarios, improving response speed and coordination with other units.

The commander explained that the drills train forces to react quickly to potential threats at sea. Rapid reaction units regularly practice inspecting ships and taking control of vessels suspected of breaking rules. Furthermore, these operations are carried out with other security agencies responsible for maritime safety. As a result, the navy can respond effectively to any emergency or suspicious activity in the area.

Tangsiri emphasized that monitoring of the Strait of Hormuz is comprehensive. The IRGC Navy tracks surface ships, aircraft movements, and underwater activity. Therefore, the surveillance guarantees safe passage for countries that do not pose a threat and rely on the strait for trade and energy transport. It also helps maintain stability in the region while protecting Iran’s national interests.

He highlighted the economic importance of the strait. More than 80 oil tankers and commercial container ships pass through the narrow waterway every day. Consequently, it has become one of the world’s most critical shipping routes. Securing the passage is a top priority for Iran to support both regional and global trade.

Finally, the drills show the IRGC Navy’s readiness to face evolving maritime threats. By combining constant monitoring, rapid response training, and coordination with other forces, Iran aims to maintain the strait’s security. In this way, these measures reinforce Iran’s role in protecting one of the most important and strategically vital maritime passages worldwide.
