Iran military legislation advances in Parliament as lawmakers approve a framework to strengthen the country’s armed forces. Consequently, this decision underscores Iran’s response to rising Israeli aggression and growing regional threats. The National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of Iran’s Parliament approved the general framework of the bill.
Committee spokesperson Ebrahim Rezaei confirmed the approval after reviewing the draft. The legislation is officially titled “Strengthening the Military Capabilities of the Armed Forces in Comprehensive Confrontation with the Crimes and Aggression of the Zionist Regime.”
During the session, officials from the Ministry of Defense, the General Staff of the Armed Forces, the Iranian Army, and the IRGC attended. In addition, lawmakers, government representatives, and military leaders discussed defense funding, operational priorities, and resource allocation. They also considered ways to ensure timely execution of military projects.
The bill, drafted by Tehran MP Ali Khezrian, gained support from 120 parliamentarians. It now moves to the Defense Subcommittee for detailed review. Rezaei explained that the legislation consists of one main article and three provisions. Moreover, lawmakers may modify the text during further deliberations to address emerging concerns.
Officials stressed the importance of sufficient defense financing. Specifically, the Deputy Defense Minister said the Ministry of Defense would strengthen military resources with the committee’s support. Furthermore, the bill requires the Plan and Budget Organization and Ministry of Petroleum to fully allocate the defense budget. They must also cover any remaining budget shortfalls from prior defense projects.
Additionally, the bill mandates the Plan and Budget Organization to fund all annual defense allocations approved by the Supreme National Security Council. Meanwhile, the Central Bank of Iran must provide financial facilities for urgent defense projects. It will use available resources to ensure projects proceed without delay.
Experts suggest the approval signals Iran’s commitment to expanding military readiness. Furthermore, analysts note that escalating regional tensions make such legislation urgent. Rezaei emphasized that the bill seeks to guarantee both financial stability and operational strength for the armed forces.
Looking ahead, the Defense Subcommittee will conduct a detailed review before the full assembly votes. Therefore, the legislation could shape Iran military planning, procurement, and strategic positioning for years. By prioritizing funding, readiness, and coordination across branches, the bill reflects lawmakers’ determination to maintain a strong, capable armed force.
