Iran’s military confirmed that Iran Air Defense forces intercepted multiple U.S. cruise missiles near Tehran and over Markazi Province. The announcement came on Wednesday amid ongoing defensive operations. Consequently, the interceptions represent a major step in protecting national airspace. Iran Air Defense units destroyed two AGM‑158 missiles near Tehran. In addition, they downed another missile over Markazi Province. These successes demonstrate the growing capabilities of Iran Air Defense forces.

Officials reported that attacks began late last month and escalated in recent weeks. Therefore, Iran has intensified its protective measures. The AGM‑158, also called the Joint Air‑to‑Surface Standoff Missile, is a long‑range, stealthy weapon built by Lockheed Martin. Moreover, it can bypass advanced air defenses and strike key targets. As a result, neutralizing these missiles highlights technical skill and operational coordination.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps Public Relations Office emphasized that the integrated national air defense network operates efficiently and protects strategic locations. Furthermore, the statement praised units for successfully tracking and eliminating multiple high‑tech missiles. Meanwhile, U.S. officials have not publicly commented on these losses, which increases uncertainty in reporting.

Since the start of hostilities, Iran reports that its forces have downed around 200 drones and cruise missiles. In addition, they struck at least six hostile aircraft. Consequently, Iran Air Defense continues to operate at a high tempo to defend both civilians and military assets. Defense analysts note that cruise missile interceptions require multiple radar layers and rapid-response missile systems. Therefore, Tehran prioritizes protecting major cities like Tehran and strategic provinces.

Political observers warn that repeated military engagements could complicate regional diplomacy. As a result, neighboring countries and international organizations may increase calls for restraint. Analysts further suggest that continued escalation could trigger broader economic and security consequences. Looking ahead, military experts expect Iran to strengthen surveillance and integrate additional defensive systems. Furthermore, Tehran will maintain high alert and strategic readiness. Therefore, Iran Air Defense remains central to national security, and its continued success will influence regional stability in the coming weeks.
