Iran’s saffron exports reached 150 tons in the first eight months of the year, signaling strong demand abroad. This growth in saffron exports highlights the country’s leading role in the global saffron market. Officials say the sector continues to expand steadily with support for farmers.

Hossein Zeinali, commissioner of the Ministry of Agriculture’s pharmaceutical plants project, reported that Iran exported 150 tons during this period. He emphasized that the country expects total saffron production to reach 250 tons by yearend. These figures underline the sector’s resilience and its growing contribution to the economy.

In comparison, Iran exported 244 tons of saffron last year. Domestic consumption, according to Zeinali, reached 80 tons, reflecting stable internal demand alongside international trade. The country has dedicated 123,000 hectares to saffron cultivation this year, demonstrating a significant commitment to expanding output.

Zeinali highlighted that authorities have prepared incentive packages to support saffron growers. These packages aim to help farmers access necessary agricultural raw materials efficiently. By providing these supports, the government hopes to boost both quality and quantity of saffron production.

Industry observers say saffron exports not only generate foreign revenue but also strengthen Iran’s agricultural sector. The country remains the world’s top saffron producer, and these export numbers confirm its competitive position. Moreover, continuous growth in exports could open new markets in Europe and Asia.

Officials also stress that sustainable farming practices are crucial for long-term success. Training programs, subsidies, and technological assistance help farmers optimize yield and maintain high-quality standards. These efforts ensure that Iran remains a key player in global saffron supply.

Looking ahead, experts predict steady growth in both production and exports. Expanding cultivation areas, improving processing facilities, and offering financial incentives can further enhance the sector. With continued government support, saffron exports are likely to surpass expectations and maintain their economic significance.

The rise in saffron exports demonstrates the country’s dedication to agricultural development and international trade. Continued investment and strategic planning are expected to strengthen Iran’s position as a global leader in saffron production.
