An attack in northern Tehran killed Dr. Saeed Shamghadri, an Iranian professor, and his two children, Mohammad and Reyhaneh. As a result, authorities said the assault shocked both the academic and local communities. Dr. Shamghadri, a distinguished scholar, served as an associate professor at Iran University of Science and Technology and as research deputy in the Faculty of Electrical Engineering.

Moreover, he made significant contributions to academic research and published in leading scientific journals worldwide, earning recognition as a top figure in his field. Following the attack, university officials expressed deep grief, praising his dedication to education and national service. They also highlighted his research, leadership, and mentorship of young engineers, noting that his life reflected a devotion to knowledge and public service.

Gholamhossein Mozaffari, Governor of Khorasan Razavi province, addressed the tragedy, calling Dr. Shamghadri’s sacrifice an honor for sincere national servants. Furthermore, he praised the professor’s efforts to localize defense technology and strengthen security, stressing that the loss underscored the importance of safeguarding the country’s well-being and future.

The attack occurred amid rising regional tensions. Recently, Iran launched retaliatory strikes on nearby military positions and U.S. bases. Analysts warned that these events could escalate conflict and consequently affect Tehran’s academic community. In addition, experts noted that targeting key researchers could hinder innovation and scientific growth.

Colleagues and students mourned Dr. Shamghadri’s death, recalling that he was committed to mentorship and academic excellence. University leaders said his legacy would inspire future researchers and added that the family’s loss resonated across academic circles. Meanwhile, authorities are investigating the incident to prevent similar attacks.

The attack has sparked calls to strengthen protections for scholars and critical infrastructure. Therefore, observers expect local and national officials to reinforce security at universities. Dr. Shamghadri’s life reflected dedication, knowledge, and service. Ultimately, his contributions and sacrifice will remain a lasting example, highlighting the urgent need to protect researchers.
