The Iranian saffron harvest has started in North Khorasan Province, bringing new life to farms and villages in the region. Farmers in Farouj County began picking the red saffron flowers in late October. The harvest will continue until late November as weather conditions stay good. This season is one of the most important times for farmers and for Iran’s economy.

Iran is the largest producer and exporter of saffron in the world. During the first six months of the current Iranian year, from March 21 to September 22, the country exported over 99.5 tons of saffron. These exports earned more than 94 million dollars, showing strong global demand for Iranian saffron.

The Iranian saffron harvest gives work to thousands of farmers across northeastern provinces like North Khorasan, South Khorasan, and Kerman. Saffron farming takes a lot of care and effort, but it brings high income because saffron is one of the most valuable spices in the world.

Officials said that the United Arab Emirates, Spain, China, Afghanistan, India, Germany, and the United Kingdom are the main buyers of Iranian saffron. These countries use saffron in food, cosmetics, and medicine. Demand stays high because saffron has many uses and is known for its strong color and flavor.

Experts believe that better weather and improved farming skills helped farmers get a good crop this year. Local agriculture offices are teaching farmers how to use water more wisely and improve the drying and packaging process. These efforts will help increase the quality of saffron and make it more competitive in global markets.

The Iranian saffron harvest also helps protect local culture and creates seasonal jobs for families in rural areas. Saffron picking is often a family activity, keeping old traditions alive. In the future, Iran plans to produce more saffron-based products like extracts, teas, and packaged goods. These steps will help the country earn more from exports and make its saffron brand stronger worldwide. With global demand rising, Iran’s saffron industry looks set to keep growing in the years ahead.
