Oman mediation efforts intensified on Sunday as Abbas Araghchi held a phone call with Badr Albusaidi. The two diplomats discussed diplomatic initiatives, regional tensions, and bilateral relations. As a result, the talks reinforced Oman’s growing diplomatic role in the region.

The conflict began on February 28 after the United States and Israel launched attacks on Iran, according to Iranian officials. Since then, the fighting has caused major destruction and increased instability across the region. Tehran says it continues pursuing diplomacy alongside military responses. Consequently, Oman mediation efforts gained renewed urgency during the escalation.

Araghchi briefed his Omani counterpart on Tehran’s recent proposals aimed at ending the war. He also outlined Iran’s position regarding ongoing military and political developments. Iranian officials criticized what they described as escalation caused by US-Israeli actions. Both sides agreed to continue consultations in the coming period.

Oman has maintained relations with both Iran and the United States for many years. Muscat previously hosted indirect negotiations between Tehran and Washington. Regional analysts often describe Oman as a trusted intermediary because of its balanced foreign policy. Therefore, Oman mediation efforts continue drawing international attention.

The conversation also covered bilateral cooperation between Iran and Oman. Both countries share strategic interests in the Strait of Hormuz, which remains critical for global energy shipments. Trade relations between Tehran and Muscat have also expanded steadily in recent years. Consequently, both governments continue emphasizing regional stability.

Iranian officials say Tehran’s proposal for ending the conflict includes several conditions. These conditions include lifting the US naval blockade and ending military operations completely. Meanwhile, Tehran insists that future agreements must address broader regional security concerns. As a result, diplomacy remains closely linked to military developments.

Regional experts continue highlighting Oman’s diplomatic importance. Muscat played a role in earlier nuclear negotiations and maintained communication channels during previous crises. In addition, Oman retains credibility with several regional and international powers. However, analysts say disagreements over US demands still complicate negotiations.

The war has also increased humanitarian concerns throughout the region. Iranian authorities report damage to civilian infrastructure, including schools and hospitals. Iran’s retaliatory operations also targeted American and Israeli assets, according to official statements. Consequently, the conflict disrupted energy markets and increased economic uncertainty.

Omani officials have expressed readiness to host additional talks if necessary. Muscat continues promoting dialogue as the most realistic path toward de-escalation. Iranian officials also say they remain prepared for negotiations under acceptable conditions. However, Tehran insists that Washington must ease maritime restrictions before major progress becomes possible.

The international community broadly supports diplomatic initiatives led by Oman. The United Nations has repeatedly called for an immediate ceasefire. Several European countries also continue supporting negotiations and mediation efforts. As a result, Oman’s diplomatic role now holds broader international importance.

The coming weeks may prove critical for diplomacy in the region. Iran and Oman plan to continue consultations while regional actors closely monitor developments. Mediators also continue urging flexibility from all sides. Ultimately, Oman mediation efforts could influence the next phase of negotiations and regional stability.
