Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian issued a strong statement on Thursday. He declared that a naval blockade illegal under international regulations. This message came on the National Day of the Persian Gulf, so the timing carried special meaning. He said such restrictions threaten global peace and stability. Therefore, this action is doomed to fail.

Pezeshkian described the Persian Gulf as inseparable from Iran’s identity. The waterway represents a symbol of Iranian resistance against colonialists, and the US-Israeli war has revealed the region’s importance once again. The Strait of Hormuz plays a key role in energy transfer. Yet the blockade measures target this vital passage, for the naval blockade illegal approach continues.

The president praised Iranian naval forces for their bravery. They showed that the Persian Gulf reflects Iran’s sovereign role, and Iran helps ensure regional and global security. The enemies have shifted from economic pressure to naval restrictions, but this policy aims to pressure the Iranian nation without success.

Pezeshkian warned that the Persian Gulf is not for foreign wills. The waterway operates within a system of international interactions, so security only makes sense through collective regional cooperation. Mutual respect for coastal countries’ sovereignty is essential, yet the naval blockade illegal action violates these basic principles.

Foreign presence and interference will not help regional security, he added. Such actions create tension instead of lasting peace, for during 40 days of US-Israeli aggression, this became clear. American military bases failed to ensure host countries’ security, but the blockade measures only jeopardized regional peace further.

Those bases became legitimate targets for Iran, Pezeshkian stated. The facilities facilitated attacks against the Islamic Republic, and Iran remains the guardian of Persian Gulf security. The country adheres to freedom of navigation principles, however this approach targets only hostile nations.

Iran believes navigation principles require mutual respect, the president said. The Iranian nation’s sovereignty must be acknowledged fully, for Pezeshkian held the U.S. and Israel responsible for insecurity. He expressed hope for lasting stability without foreign powers, but the naval blockade illegal action contradicts this vision.

A temporary ceasefire took effect on April 8 after 40 days. Pakistan brokered the truce between Tehran and Washington, yet high-ranking negotiators then held talks in Islamabad. Those discussions stopped short of any agreement, so the naval blockade illegal action continued despite the ceasefire.

Washington made excessive demands during the negotiations, and the U.S. also insisted on unreasonable positions throughout. Iran refused to rejoin the diplomatic process afterwards, for Tehran demands the blockade’s complete removal first. This issue remains the main obstacle to talks.

Iran has kept the Strait of Hormuz closed since the war. The country will not reopen the waterway now, and Tehran says the blockade must end before any changes. U.S. sanctions have failed to cut Iran’s oil revenues, but the naval blockade illegal action has not achieved its stated aims.

The Persian Gulf’s security depends on regional cooperation, Pezeshkian said. Foreign military presence only creates more tension, yet Iran will continue defending its sovereign rights firmly. Regional nations must work together for lasting peace, so all parties need diplomatic solutions.
