Three members of the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) died in an IRGC attack in southeastern Iran. The attackers struck near Lar, close to Zahedan, while the troops were patrolling the border. The incident highlights ongoing security risks in this volatile region. According to a statement from the IRGC’s Quds Regional Headquarters, security forces immediately launched a manhunt. They continue to track and confront the attackers, aiming to restore order quickly. The authorities emphasized the priority of protecting Iran’s southeastern borders.

Sistan and Baluchestan province has faced repeated threats in recent years. Its proximity to Pakistan makes it particularly vulnerable to terrorist activities. Consequently, both civilians and security forces have suffered casualties. Officials have repeatedly warned about these persistent risks. Several terrorist organizations operate in southeastern Iran, often with suspected connections to foreign intelligence agencies. Among them, Jaish al-Adl has claimed responsibility for multiple deadly attacks. For example, in August, militants killed five police officers, and in July, they stormed a courthouse, leaving six people dead.

Experts explain that the province’s mountainous terrain and local insurgent networks complicate security operations. Therefore, the IRGC has invested heavily in surveillance, intelligence, and rapid response measures. Analysts stress that proactive measures remain essential to counter these threats effectively. The deadliest recent attack occurred in February 2019. Jaish al-Adl launched a suicide bombing against an IRGC bus convoy, killing 27 members of the force. This attack revealed the high stakes of border security and reinforced the need for constant vigilance.

Officials emphasize that IRGC attacks not only endanger lives but also threaten regional stability. They argue that enhanced border monitoring and international cooperation are critical. In addition, authorities plan to strengthen patrols and checkpoints along vulnerable areas to prevent further incidents. Looking ahead, security forces will maintain the manhunt until they apprehend the perpetrators. Analysts predict that ongoing threats will keep the IRGC heavily engaged in counterterrorism operations.

Meanwhile, local authorities are working to educate communities about reporting suspicious activities. The recent IRGC attack demonstrates the persistent volatility in southeastern Iran. It underscores the importance of proactive security measures, rapid responses, and regional collaboration to protect civilians and maintain stability.
