Pakistani Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi arrived in Tehran on Saturday to launch an urgent diplomatic mission. This critical visit supports Islamabad’s ongoing mediation efforts to reduce the intense political friction between Iran and the United States. Consequently, the minister aims to deliver new strategic proposals to break the current diplomatic deadlock between the two global adversaries.
The minister immediately held high-level discussions with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi upon his arrival in the capital. During this crucial meeting, Naqvi delivered a special message from Pakistani Army Chief of Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir. This highly confidential letter is specifically intended for the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei. Furthermore, the Pakistani envoy met with Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni to review bilateral security cooperation.
This diplomatic push followed a series of significant regional meetings involving senior Pakistani leaders. Before traveling to Iran, Naqvi attended the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan. He subsequently returned to Islamabad to brief Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif regarding regional security developments. Following these consultations, the Prime Minister authorized this direct mission to advance regional mediation efforts.
Geopolitical stability in West Asia remains fragile after military hostilities disrupted global energy markets on February 28. Although a temporary ceasefire halted direct conflict on April 8, subsequent implementation disputes stalled the peace process. Therefore, Pakistan is actively leveraging its neutral diplomatic position to facilitate a sustainable, long-term political understanding. Officials from both nations believe that these mediation efforts offer the most viable path toward permanent regional stabilization.
