Iranian officials clarified that President Masoud Pezeshkian’s letter to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman was not about mediation with the United States. Consequently, Iran nuclear talks remain highly sensitive and closely monitored.

Ismail Baghai, spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, explained that the letter focused on bilateral relations and the Hajj pilgrimage. Moreover, he emphasized that mediation was not relevant to this correspondence.

Earlier reports suggested the letter asked the Saudi crown prince to persuade former US President Donald Trump to engage in nuclear negotiations. However, sources indicated the main purpose was to highlight Iran’s desire to avoid confrontation and promote deeper regional cooperation.

Diplomatic talks between Iran and the US have stalled since the twelve-day conflict that targeted Iran’s nuclear facilities. Meanwhile, the snapback mechanism was activated, which has further complicated Iran nuclear talks.

Baghai also addressed Iran’s relationship with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). He stressed that Iran does not require mediation. Furthermore, he criticized the agency for repeatedly blaming Iran while holding Israel, the US, and three European countries responsible for obstructing cooperation.

Iran previously signed the Cairo Agreement with the IAEA on September 8 to establish a framework for continued cooperation. However, after the IAEA Board of Governors passed a resolution on November 19, Iran declared the agreement null. Additionally, Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi confirmed the agreement had officially ended.

Experts note that these developments further complicate Iran nuclear talks because Tehran has restricted access to key nuclear sites for months. As a result, a confidential IAEA report on November 12 revealed that inspectors cannot verify uranium stocks enriched near weapons-grade levels.

Iranian authorities said all major nuclear policy decisions occur at the highest level. They added that details will be announced once decisions are finalized. Moreover, analysts suggest that clarifying Pezeshkian’s letter demonstrates Tehran’s desire to control the narrative amid global scrutiny.

Iran nuclear talks remain crucial for regional stability and international diplomacy. Therefore, observers emphasize that continued dialogue with the IAEA and neighboring countries is vital to prevent escalation.
