Iran and Pakistan reaffirmed their commitment to boosting Iran-Pakistan trade, targeting $10 billion in the coming years. The announcement came during a meeting between Dr Ali Ardeshir Larijani, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, and Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari.

Dr Larijani conveyed greetings from Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, and President Masoud Pezeshkian. He praised Pakistan for its support during the 12-day war earlier this year. He said the success of Pakistan’s armed forces benefits both countries. Dr Larijani highlighted Iran’s readiness to strengthen economic ties.

Following the Iranian President’s visit to Pakistan, Iran issued directives to give preferential access to Pakistani products. This move aims to accelerate the $10 billion trade goal. The meeting also discussed regional and international security issues, counterterrorism, and the Iran-Pakistan Gas Pipeline. Both sides agreed to continue technical talks.

President Zardari thanked Iran for its humanitarian support during recent floods. He emphasized that closer cooperation serves the interests of both nations. He also praised Iran’s support for Kashmir and Palestine and its stance against Israeli aggression. Zardari described the bilateral relationship as rooted in shared culture, faith, and history.

Both leaders stressed strengthening the rail link between Pakistan and Iran. Improved connectivity will support trade, tourism, and facilitate Zaireen pilgrimages. Experts say reaching the $10 billion Iran-Pakistan trade milestone could create jobs and expand commerce.

Preferential trade and better logistics can boost energy, agriculture, and manufacturing. The two countries agreed to maintain frequent diplomatic exchanges. Officials plan to deepen economic, cultural, and strategic cooperation in the years ahead.
