Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met with Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis in Geneva, where the second round of indirect nuclear negotiations between Iran and the United States is underway. The meeting took place during Araghchi’s official visit to Switzerland, which is hosting the ongoing diplomatic talks. Araghchi thanked the Swiss government for its role in organizing and hosting the negotiations, noting that Geneva continues to serve as an important venue for international diplomacy.
During the meeting, Araghchi briefed Cassis on the progress made in the indirect talks over the past two days. He described the discussions as serious, focused, and constructive. According to the Iranian foreign minister, the two sides have reached a general understanding on a set of main principles that will guide the next stages of negotiations. He explained that these principles are expected to form the basis for drafting more detailed agreements in future sessions. The upcoming discussions will focus mainly on sanctions relief and nuclear-related issues, which remain the core topics of the negotiations.
The talks between the Iranian and Swiss foreign ministers also covered broader regional and international issues. Both sides exchanged views on recent developments in the Middle East, including the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories. Araghchi strongly criticized the ongoing violence against Palestinians and stressed the need for the international community to respond responsibly. Araghchi also underlined the importance of respecting international law. He said all countries should adhere to the principles and rules outlined in the Charter of the United Nations. He warned that ignoring or normalizing violations of international law could weaken global order and lead to greater instability.
For his part, Cassis welcomed the continuation of indirect Iran–US negotiations in Geneva. He reaffirmed Switzerland’s long-standing commitment to dialogue, diplomacy, and peaceful conflict resolution. Cassis said Switzerland is ready to assist any diplomatic effort that helps reach a mutually acceptable solution to the nuclear issue. He also emphasized that diplomacy remains the best path to preventing further tensions and escalation in the region. Both sides agreed on the importance of maintaining open communication channels and supporting diplomatic processes aimed at stability and cooperation.
