Iran-UAE cooperation advanced as Iran’s Consul General in Dubai, Alireza Mahmoudi, met senior Emirati officials. The meetings focused on improving trade and air transport links. Mahmoudi met Mohammed Ali Rashid Lootah, Secretary-General of the Dubai Chambers, to discuss commercial collaboration. They aimed to simplify customs procedures and enhance logistics. Both parties agreed to promote direct engagement between private companies.
In a separate meeting, Mahmoudi met Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and CEO of Emirates Airline. Discussions centered on improving air transport, removing operational barriers, and supporting Iranian businesses in Dubai. Both sides emphasized the need to strengthen economic relations and expand Iran-UAE cooperation in logistics and aviation. Mahmoudi highlighted the importance of better coordination between chambers of commerce.
Recent trade statistics underscore the value of these talks. Iran exported over seven billion dollars in non-oil goods to the UAE last year. The UAE ranked as Iran’s third-largest export market. Meanwhile, Iran imported nearly twenty-two billion dollars worth of goods from the UAE, making it Iran’s top source of non-oil imports. Earlier, both countries signed a memorandum of understanding to expand cooperation. The agreement covers banking, transport, customs, and investment. Officials noted that the renewed engagement after a decade shows the importance of rebuilding trust and efficiency.
Ghadir Ghiafeh, deputy head of Iran’s Chamber of Commerce, said Iran plans to open a trade and investment office in the UAE. The office will attract Emirati investment and promote business connections. He also called for a UAE Chamber representative in Iran to strengthen private sector collaboration. Hamid Mohammed bin Salem, Secretary-General of the UAE Chambers Federation, welcomed the proposals. He pledged to facilitate business-to-business meetings and share UAE private sector expertise with Iranian traders.
Both sides identified logistics, transport, and food industries as key growth sectors. They also aim to expand re-export opportunities for Iranian goods through UAE ports. Mahmoudi noted that proper coordination can enhance trade compliance with international standards. Officials highlighted the potential for joint investment and partnerships in new energy sectors. They emphasized using UAE’s advanced infrastructure to benefit Iranian exporters. Both countries agreed to promote cooperation through working committees and regular consultations.
Iran-UAE cooperation also focuses on addressing banking and monetary challenges. Officials said improved financial solutions are essential to streamline bilateral trade. They stressed that private sector engagement is crucial for long-term growth. With strong government and business support, Iran-UAE cooperation is expected to grow further. Both nations are committed to maximizing trade opportunities and strengthening regional connectivity.
