Iran’s Consul General in the Kurdistan Region says Iran’s ties with Erbil are historic and strategic. Iran is also pushing forward in indirect nuclear talks with the United States after gaining acceptance of its core conditions. The diplomat emphasized Iran’s commitment to diplomacy and strong regional relations. In an exclusive interview, the diplomat announced progress in the latest round of indirect negotiations with the United States.

He stated that Washington has accepted Iran’s two main conditions: recognition of Iran’s right to nuclear enrichment and limiting discussions strictly to the nuclear issue and sanctions relief. He said the first stage of the talks was successful and that negotiations are continuing with regional mediation, particularly by Oman. Although other countries, including Turkey, offered to mediate, Iran chose Oman as the main channel. The Consul General said this decision reflects Iran’s diplomatic experience and strategic caution.

The diplomat also addressed public sentiment in Iran. He noted widespread skepticism toward the United States due to past breaches of trust. According to surveys, more than 80 percent of Iranians remain cautious about the ongoing talks. He added that while several rounds of negotiations succeeded, recent regional events—including coordinated military actions and attempts to influence domestic protests—have increased public wariness.

The interview also focused on Iran’s long-standing economic ties with the Kurdistan Region. The Consul General said Iran was the first country to open economic, political, and cultural gates to the people of the region. He described these ties as historically deep and unmatched by Iran’s relations with other countries. Looking ahead, the Consul General said Iran and the Kurdistan Region are committed to expanding trade and cooperation.

Both sides are working to facilitate commerce and maximize shared benefits. He described the path of developing these relations as steady and growing. The remarks show Iran’s dual strategy. The country is pursuing constructive engagement in nuclear negotiations while strengthening regional partnerships. The Kurdistan Region continues to play a key role in Iran’s diplomatic and economic agenda.
